“We need more social sciences experts in AI to focus on its human side”
Adam Russell, AI/nthropologist and Director of the AI Division at the USC Information Sciences Institute (ISI), is on a journey to help build a better world with AI. He interviews the ISI humans behind AI to understand what motivates them, how they shape AI today, and where they hope AI will go.
Shushan Arakelyan, a research assistant at ISI, discusses a type of human behavior she finds fascinating, unexpected and unexplainable. She explains why she believes large language models have have become so interesting to the public, and what features some have that don’t appeal to her. She explores why an instinct that draws scientists to their fields conflicts with current pressures to innovate quickly.
